About the category

What we carry, and why

Glaze is where ceramics gets its color, and it is our deepest category by a wide margin. We carry the complete Mayco range, Stroke & Coat, Foundations, Elements, Jungle Gems, underglazes, clears, and stoneware glazes, and the full AMACO range, including Potter's Choice, Celadon, Shino, Satin Matte, High Fire, and the Teacher's Palette lines built specifically for classrooms.

Because the families behave differently, choosing well takes more than a color chart. Stroke & Coat is a low-fire workhorse that looks the same fired as it does in the jar. Potter's Choice is a cone 5-6 line designed to break and pool over texture for results no flat color can match. Teacher's Palette is formulated to be predictable in a busy classroom. We help you match the line to the work, the cone, and the room.

What To Think About

Buying Glazes well

A few things we talk through at the counter before anyone commits.

Always test on your clay and your kiln

Glaze charts are fired on a reference body. Your clay, your cone, and your firing schedule change the result. A tile test before a full load saves whole kiln loads.

Know which lines break over texture

AMACO Potter's Choice and many stoneware glazes reward carved or textured surfaces by pooling and breaking. Flat application hides what makes them special.

Buy clears that match your cone

A low-fire clear over cone 6 work will not vitrify. We keep clears across the range so the topcoat matures with the body underneath.
